Lihula has, throughout the ages, been one of the most significant centres
in Western Estonia. In the Middle Ages there was a well-fortified stronghold.
The present manor house in the style of NeoClassicism was built in the
1830s near the stronghold ruins by Luise von Wistinghausen.
