A demonstration by the pro-Soviet Interfront in Tallinn	Some communist die-hards kept fighting back despite the inevitable collapse of the Soviet Empire but their enthusiasm was curbed along with the failure of the plans of the hardliners in Moscow. During the attempted reactionary coup, Estonia declared the restoration of its independence on 20 August 1991.
