Western Estonian
folk costumes had several features in common with those of Southern and
Northern Estonia. Women wore a long-sleeved shirt with a jacket over it,
a bodice and a scarf folded into a triangle.
Lihula maiden
After the middle of the 19th century, women in Estonia, mainly in the western
regions, also began to wear checked skirts.

Häädemeeste woman In Pärnumaa, women wore high conical coifs. On occasions of festivity
and merrymaking, young women adorned their coifs with pink, while older
women wore blue ribbons.

Kihnu women (c 1920) Even today, Kihnu women have not given up their local fashions. They still
often wear and knit their striped skirts.
