The new director of the Estonian Institute is Monika Larini

Monika Larini won the open competition and starts work on the 27th of February 2012.

Monika Larini has studied theatre, literature and art history at universities of Tartu and Helsinki, and furthered her education at the University of Amsterdam in the field of copyrights and cultural management. Monika Larini was head of the Estonian Drama Agency; in 2008 she developed it into a broader-based information centre – the Estonian Theatre Agency. She is currently working at the Estonian Drama Theatre.

Larini has compiled study materials, published theatre-related articles in Estonia and abroad, participated in theatre and culture conferences in Europe, America and Australia and taught history of theatre at universities.

„I share the Estonian Institute’s broad vision of what culture essentially means, and I would like to continue geographically extensive activities in introducing Estonian culture abroad,“ said Larini.

Among her aims as director Larini emphasises the need to make the Institute more visible in Estonia, increase its activities and cooperation with various cultural and educational institutions. She is keen to continue the culture portal www.kultuur.info and web encyclopaedia www.estonica.org, also expand the Institute’s publication activities.

The previous director of the Estonian Institute, Mart Meri, was appointed a member of Riigikogu in November 2011.
