The History of Estonian Art, Vol 2 presents an overview of Estonian art, architecture and decorative arts in the early modern age, covering the period from the early 16th century to the last third of the 18th century. The articles by different researchers present overviews and analyses, but there are also 'case studies', in which there is a focus on the historical treatment of a particular architectural object or a work of art. There are summaries in English at the end of the book.

Karin Luts was the first woman painter in Estonia who achieved wider recognition. During her studies at the art school Pallas she stood out as a young independent woman protesting against the established rules of society. After graduation in 1928 she travelled to paris to further her studies. Back at home she became an original and highly appreciated painter by the mid-1930s. In 1944 she fled to sweden together with her husband Peeter Arumaa, and stayed there until their death.
Luts left behind an abundant legacy - paintings, prints, many articles and travelogues, and diaries that she kept all her life. She wanted everything to be brought to Estonia. On the basis of that material, supplemented by the works belonging to the Estonian art museums and private collections, an exhibition was organised at Tartu Art Museum - the first comprehensive display of the work of Karin Luts.
The exhibition catalogue contains overviews of her paintings and graphic art, and her views on art; her diaries help to get an idea of her life; the catalogue also includes the list of all her works and is richly illustrated.
For introducing the works of Karin Luts, the authors of the catalogue - Mare Joonsalu, Reet Mark, Tiiu Talvistu - received one of the highest art awards in Estonia - the Kristjan Raud Award in 2005.
